Historic Colonial Hotel
to host window workshop

Historic preservation craftsman Sterling Holdorf will conduct a week-long, hands-on wood window
restoration workshop October 6 through 10, 2008, at the Historic Colonial Hotel in Meyersdale.

MEYERSDALE -- Windows are the eyes of a building. Often, original windows are the single most noticeable aspect of a building’s architectural style. Altering them can easily spoil not just the building but the character of an entire neighborhood, even decreasing property values. Buildings that retain their traditional appearance are increasingly sought after. Most existing windows can be repaired, but too often they are needlessly replaced. Restoring original windows can often be more energy efficient and cost effective than replacing them. Now you can learn how to restore original wood windows and maintain the architectural and historical integrity of historic buildings.

?Meyersdale Renaissance, Inc., and the Historic Colonial Hotel are pleased to present a window restoration workshop with renowned preservation craftsman Sterling Holdorf, October 6 though 10, 2008, at the Historic Colonial Hotel, 319 Main Street, in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. The three- and five-day courses are aimed to train anyone–novice and experienced craftsman alike–in the maintenance, repair, and preservation of historic wood windows. You will have a rare opportunity to work on windows from an historic building, while working inside the building itself! The Historic Colonial Hotel is a 1905 grand hotel listed in the National Register of Historic Places and named one of the 2008 Top Ten Best Preservation Opportunities in the Pittsburgh Area. Co-sponsor Meyersdale Renaissance, Inc., is a non-profit, community economic redevelopment program dedicated to the redevelopment of downtown Meyersdale and serves as the Meyersdale Chamber of Commerce.
